The Metro Tunnel Project is the largest transformation of Melbourne’s rail network since the City Loop opened in 1982.
The new Melbourne Metro Tunnel project comprises of the construction works associated with 5 underground train stations and 2 portals, plus associated public realm works and temporary structures located throughout Melbourne. The new underground stations are located at the following locations;

Locations:
Arden
Located near the corner of Arden Street and Laurens Street the new underground station at Arden will be built via a ‘cut and cover’ method, with the station box excavated from the bottom up and a roof slab placed over the top of the site.
Parkville
Located under Grattan Street near Royal Parade, the new underground station at Parkville will be built via a ‘cut and cover’ method, with a roof slab placed over the top of the site.
Domain
Located directly under St Kilda Road near the intersection of Albert Road and Domain Road, the station in Domain will be built via a ‘cut and cover’ method, with the station box excavated from the top down and a roof slab placed over the top of the site.
Tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will be launched from Domain towards the new underground station at the southern end of Swanston Street and the eastern tunnel entrance in South Yarra.
CBD North & South
The new underground station at the northern end of the CBD will be located under Swanston Street, between La Trobe Street and Franklin Street and will include an underground pedestrian connection to Melbourne Central Station, plus three entrances, including the underground connection directly into Melbourne Central station.
The southern end underground station will be located under Swanston Street, between Flinders Street and Collins Street and will include an underground pedestrian connection to the platforms at Flinders Street Station.
Three overlapping tunnels will be mined by the road headers to create wide platforms with supporting columns and vaulted ceilings. The total platform width will be around 19 metres – one of the widest metro platforms in the world.
